Peter Greenwood

Peter Greenwood was Deputy Head at Thorn Park School for Deaf Children and before taking this post he worked for the then Bradford and Ilkley Community College. As well as being an excellent teacher of the deaf and hearing impaired, Peter devoted a great deal of his spare time in helping deaf and hearing impaired students and pupils in furthering their education and training and in achieving their potential. He was an avid football fan too, and tragically, he lost his life in the fire at Bradford City’s Valley Parade football ground in May 1985 – his two sons Rupert and Felix also died with him.

The Peter Greenwood Memorial Trust was set up in 1986 by Peter’s widow, Hazel Greenwood. The trust aims to provide financial support for people in the deaf and hard of hearing community through small cash grants, helping them continue their studies, in secondary, higher or further education or in training institutions. The Trust’s area of operation is England and Wales.
